DANA - Storm alert on the Balearic Islands

Orange level warning for Mallorca

An isolated upper-level low, also known as cold drop or DANA, has been announced for today's Sunday evening. DANA (as they like to call it in Spain) is a phenomenon that causes us weathermen a headache whenever it occurs since this weather situation always involves a factor of high uncertainty.

Right now, it looks like Catalonia will be expecting rain and thunderstorms first. Afterwards, the upper-level low will be heading towards the Balearic Islands where severe storms will be taking place on Monday and Tuesday. Heavy rainfall, storms and squalls are on the agenda which is why an orange level warning has been issued here and there. Up to 40 mm of rain are expected to fall here and there.
