Saharan dust ensures flight chaos

Airports of Tenerife and Gran Canaria are standing still

The Saharan dust and the strong squalls continue to ensure plenty of chaos on the Canary Islands. The flight operations have been suspended on Gran Canaria and Tenerife. Tourists should contact their airlines or travel agencies as soon as possible. The waiting period at the Airports can get very long.

A recent video shows that it is also burning and storming in Santa Ursula (north-west of Tenerife). An all-clear signal has not been given on Gran Canaria yet, the fire brigade was able to save a goat stable from catching fire a few minutes ago (see video).

La Aldea de San Nicolas (Gran Canaria) registers peak temperatures of +- 33 °C and gusts of more than 100 km/h. An orange level warning has been issued for large parts of the Canary Islands until Monday morning.
