Spain - Tourism figures December 2019

Andalusia and Valencia are the big winners

4,31 million foreign tourists visited Spain in December 2019, which is a minus of 0,9 % compared to December 2018.

The Britons rank first with 790,507 tourists (-7,7 %), followed by the French people with 556,780 tourists (+0,5 %), and the Germans rank 3rd with 497,204 tourists (-7,4 %).

January to December 2019

From January to December, 18,07 million Britons (-2,4 %) travelled to Spain. The Germans rank 2nd with 11,17 million tourists (-2,1 %), followed by the French people with 11,15 million tourists (-1,2 %).

Spain registered a total of 83,70 million foreign visitors between January and December 2019 which corresponds to a plus of 1,1 %.

- 2,54 million tourists came from Belgium (+ 1,3 %)
- 2,17 million tourists came from Ireland (+ 6,0 %)
- 3,70 million tourists came from the Netherlands (- 4,0 %)
- 5,55 million tourists came from Scandinavia (- 4,4 %)
- 1,82 million tourists came from Switzerland (- 3,1 %)
- 3,33 million tourists came from the USA (+ 10,3 %)

Andalusia ranks 4th among Spain's most popular holiday destinations, right behind Catalonia, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands.

Andalusia registered a total of 12,08 million foreign visitors which is a plus of 3,4 %.

The Canary Islands registered a total of 13,15 million foreign visitors which is a minus of 4,4 %.

The Balearic Islands registered a total of 13,68 million foreign visitors which is a minus of 1,2 %.

Catalonia registered a total of 19,36 million foreign visitors which is a plus of 0,8 %.

Valencia registered a total of 9,56 million foreign visitors which is a plus of 3,9 %.

Economy

According to the Spanish Institute of Statistics, tourists generated a revenue of 92,27 billion euros from January to December 2019 which is a plus of 2,8 %. The Britons are responsible for a turnover of 17,98 billion euros and the Germans for a turnover of 11,72 billion euros.

Andalusia achieves a turnover of 12,52 billion euros with foreign tourists which currently answers to a minus of 0,9 %.
