Costa del Sol - Stormy and rainy

Santa will bring sun and mild temperatures

A cyclone will head westwards on Thursday leading to numerous storm warnings in Spain. However, a vortex of clouds above the Canary Islands will make sure that warm air will reach the southern half of Spain as of Saturday.

But first things first:

On Thursday and Friday, chaos will prevail in large parts (see storm map). Storm, rain and elevated swell are on the agenda.

Andalusia - South of Spain

Andalusia will be affected by the cyclone as well, especially the west will be affected by strong squalls and heavy rain. The gusts will reach maximum speeds of more than 90 km/h and more than 60 mm of rain will fall here and there. The waves will be reaching heights of 3 to 5 metres at the Costa del Sol on Friday, an orange warning level has been issued. The snow line will rise to 3,000 metres in the Sierra Nevada, and we will have to wait and see if and when the lifts will open.

The situation will calm down as of Saturday and it will get sunnier and warmer. Malaga is expecting sunny peak temperatures of +- 22 °C towards Christmas and Murcia is expecting peak temperatures of 22 to 25 °C. Alicante is looking forward to +- 23 °C and even Denia might reach +- 22 °C.

The latest development will be available on, updated four times a day. Breaking weather news in our ticker.
