Spain - Tourism figures September 2019

Slight minus dampens the mood

8,91 million foreign tourists visited Spain in September 2019 which is a minus of 0,2 % compared to September 2018.

The Britons rank first with 2,10 million tourists (-0,4 %), followed by the Germans with 1,27 million tourists (-7,1 %), and the French people rank 3rd with 993,159 tourists (-4,8 %).

January to September 2019

From January to September, 14,76 million Britons (-1,6 %) travelled to Spain. The French people rank 2nd with 9,13 million tourists (-2,4 %), followed by the Germans with 8,98 million tourists (-1,0 %).

Spain registered a total of 67,09 million foreign visitors between January and September 2019 which represents a plus of 1,3 %.

- 2,08 million tourists came from Belgium (+ 1,4 %)
- 1,80 million tourists came from Ireland (+ 7,4 %)
- 3,01 million tourists came from the Netherlands (- 4,6 %)
- 4,19 million tourists came from Scandinavia (- 6,0 %)
- 1,43 million tourists came from Switzerland (- 3,2 %)
- 2,63 million tourists came from the USA (+ 14,2 %)

Andalusia ranks 3rd among Spain's most popular holiday destinations, right behind Catalonia and the Balearic Islands.

Andalusia registered a total of 9,70 million foreign visitors which is a plus of 3,4 %.

The Canary Islands registered a total of 9,63 million foreign visitors which is a minus of 4,2 %.

The Balearic Islands registered a total of 12,15 million foreign visitors which is a minus of 0,4 %.

Catalonia registered a total of 15,62 million foreign visitors which is a plus of 0,6 %.

Economy

According to the Spanish Institute of Statistics, the tourists generated a revenue of 73,83 billion euros from January to September 2019 which is a plus of 3,0 %. The Britons are responsible for a turnover of 14,78 billion euros and the Germans for a turnover of 9,33 billion euros.

Andalusia achieves a turnover of 9,9 billion euros with foreign tourists which is currently a minus of 2,6 %.
