Environmental disaster in Murcia

Mar Menor Lagoon contaminated

The severe storm of September 12th, 2019, ensured massive amounts of rain and inundations in the region of Murcia. Due to the floodings, pesticides (coming from intensive agriculture) and untreated wastewater streamed into the Mar Menor Lagoon. Now, the lagoon is contaminated. Missing oxygen is leading to the perishment of millions of marine animals, the beaches are blocked. The prosecution will now initiate investigations to get to the bottom of it. One does not have to be a psychic to divine that the investigations will come to nothing.
