Spain - Tourism figures August 2019

Andalusia stable, Balearic Islands with light minus

10,12 million foreign tourists visited Spain in August 2019 which is a minus of 0,5 % compared to August 2018.

The Britons rank first with 2,18 million tourists (-3,1 %), followed by the French people with 2,02 million tourists (-4,6 %) and the Germans rank 3rd with 1,13 million tourists (-10,7 %).

January to August 2019

From January to August, 12,65 million Britons (-1,8 %) travelled to Spain. The French people rank 2nd with 8,13 million tourists (-2,1 %), followed by the Germans with 7,71 million tourists (+-0,0 %).

Spain registered a total of 58,18 million foreign visitors between January and August 2019 which represents a plus of 1,5 %.

- 1,81 million tourists came from Belgium (+ 1,0 %)
- 1,55 million tourists came from Ireland (+ 7,5 %)
- 2,64 million tourists came from the Netherlands (- 5,0 %)
- 3,71 million tourists came from Scandinavia (- 7,2 %)
- 1,23 million tourists came from Switzerland (- 3,0 %)
- 2,27 million tourists came from the USA (+ 13,6 %)

Andalusia ranks 4th among Spain's most popular holiday destinations, right behind Catalonia, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands.

Andalusia registered a total of 8,30 million foreign visitors which is a plus of 3,0 %.

The Canary Islands registered a total of 8,67 million foreign visitors which is a minus of 3,7 %.

The Balearic Islands registered a total of 10,14 million foreign visitors which is a minus of 0,2 %.

Catalonia registered a total of 13,61 million foreign visitors which is a plus of 0,7 %.

The region of Valencia remains on the fast track with 6,66 million visitors (a plus of 3,9 %).


Economy

According to the Spanish Institute of Statistics, the tourists generated a revenue of 64,12 billion euros from January to August 2019 which is a plus of 3,2 %. The Britons are responsible for a turnover of 12,73 billion euros and the Germans for a turnover of 8,02 billion euros.
