Sierra Nevada closes Christmas with an increase in ski area

The winter resort of Sierra Nevada has closed the Christmas holiday period today with an increase in the skiable surface to reach 70 skiable kilometres -maximum of the season- and faces the next days with the perspective of continuing to expand the ski area.

Thanks to the 15 centimetres of new snow accumulated in all areas after the snowfall yesterday, the station has improved its performance in all aspects, especially in terms of snow quality, which is again powder snow on all tracks in Sierra Nevada. Thanks to the action of the wind-screens, the thickness ranges between 40 and 150 centimetres.

Although Sierra Nevada has been offering tracks in its six ski areas for weeks (Veleta, Laguna, Loma Dílar, Río, Parador-Cauchiles and Borreguiles), the station's machines and the snow-producing systems are concentrating their efforts on opening new routes and completing others, such as the 'black' tracks -maximum difficulty- or the complete itinerary of the El Águila track, one of the longest in Spain with almost 6 kilometers of slope.

The new snow conditions coincide with the end of the Christmas holiday period in which Sierra Nevada has registered from December 22 to January 6 a total of 145,700 users, of which 116,250 were skiers and 29,450 visitors who enjoyed activities of snow without skiing.
